The Technology
of Modern Medical Care
at The Animal Center

The age of digital images and sound is here!

The Animal Center embraces this new technology!

We offer state of the art medicine
including modern diagnostic and treatment techniques

Cold Laser Therapy

Conventional laser therapy has been in use for more than 25 years. More than 3,000 scientific publications test its effectiveness and the validity of this approach. It has been demonstrated that it is not toxic and it has no side effects.

Today, it is used as a monotherapy or as a complementary therapy.  MLS Therapy is a new therapy for treating pain, inflammation, and edema and even for repairing superficial lesions.  It was developed to overcome the limits of traditional Laser therapy, based on the use of diode lasers.  Thanks to this characteristic synchronization, the various  therapeutic effects – anti-inflammatory and anti-edema of the continuous emission and analgesic of the pulsed emission – not only take place at the same time but reciprocally reinforce each other.  Because of this, MLS therapy is able to guarantee effectiveness and short treatment times when treating numerous ostoe-muscular system diseases and when repairing superficial lesions.

 Digital Radiology

The Animal Center has digital radiographic abilities!  This 21st century equipment uses x-rays produced during a radiographic study to create an interactive picture with superior resolution.  The software allows the images created to be manipulated by the doctor in order to see different depths of tissue, extreme magnification, and the use of color to highlight different densities.  Digital radiography is the cutting edge in x-ray viewing technology, whether human or animal medicine.  The digital radiographs can also be sent to radiology or orthopedic specialists in seconds over the internet in order to get expert opinions in a short amount of time.

Video Otoscope

With the changes in video capture capabilities, come the opportunities for new advances in medical diagnostic and treatment tools.  One such tool is the video otoscope.  This small endoscopic camera is used to view the inside of the ear canal and ear drum.  The images produced by this remarkable machine allow for more accurate diagnosis of different types of ear infections.  It also allows for real time manipulation, treatment, and surgery of the tiny and delicate ear canal.

IV fluid pump

When patients need fluids administered intravenously, guessing just won’t do.  The IV fluid pump delivers accurate amounts of fluid to the patient over a given period of time.  Every millimeter of fluid is accounted for and measured while using this machine!

Micro IV pump

This machine is used when small patients need fluids, or patients need small amounts of fluids.  This machine measures and delivers intravenous fluid in amounts so small the droplets can’t be seen by the naked eye.  It is an extension of the big IV pump, but geared for micro measurement.

Ultrasound

This machine sends sound waves into the body and then measures the waves that bounce back to produce an image for the doctors to read.  The sound waves travel through tissue differently than x-rays.  The things that are hard to see with x-rays are much easier to see with ultrasound.  Ultrasound machines are used to diagnose pregnancy, different kinds of cancer, kidney problems, liver problems, and a multitude of other medical conditions.  The ultrasound can also allow for guided biopsies of different organs within the body without major invasive surgery.

Tonometer

This machine is used to measure the pressure in the eye ball.  Glaucoma is a disease that can cause blindness when the intraocular pressure gets too high.  As the eye ages, sometimes the intraocular pressure can increase which causes pain and blindness as well as cataracts.  The tonometer allows the doctor to check the intraocular pressure quickly and accurately without topic anesthetic for the eye ball.

Blood chemistry machine

This machine measures the different chemicals in a sample of blood.  The different levels of chemicals in the blood help the doctors to determine the function of different organs.  In other words, the blood chemistry reports levels of byproducts of the liver, kidneys, pancreas, etc.

Gas Anesthesia

The primary purpose of the gas anesthetic machine and system is to deliver an inhaled (gas) anesthetic to the patient in order to keep him unconscious through surgery to prevent pain and movement.  The machine delivers very specific  quantities of anesthetic to the lungs.  This form of anesthesia is considered to be the safest during long procedures.

Anesthetic Monitoring Equipment

Anesthetic monitoring equipment is essential for making sure the patients vital signs are stable during an anesthetic procedure.  This machine keeps constant track of heart beats, blood oxygenation, and breathing patterns to help insure the maximum patient safety during general anesthesia.

Autoclave

This autoclave is a pressurized device designed to heat aqueous solutions above their boiling point at normal atmospheric pressure to achieve sterilization.

We use this autoclave to sterilize our surgical equipment before surgery!

Pet Identification Chips and Scanners

The number one killer of pets in this country is animals that are lost or misidentified.  The Animal Center is equipped with an advanced micro-electronic technology system that provides precise, secure and permanent animal identification.  The Animal Identification System utilizes its own unique and patented technique, based on radio wave communications, to identify animals on demand.  The Animal Identification System is comprised of a microchip that gets implanted in the pet and a microchip reader.  For more information on this technology please call us at 308-762-7053.

 Equine Power Float

This is the latest in equine dental technology.  Remember the old fashioned way of floating the teeth in a horses mouth with the rasps, well no more!  The equine power float is a motorized rotating grind wheel that causes NO soft tissue injury.  It is specially engineered with a guarded design to enable veterinary doctors to do precise and gentle dentistry in all areas of a horse's mouth. The heavy duty, but compact right angle gear system can be rotated to the up or down position for use on upper or lower dental arcades. With the PowerFloat, veterinarians can remove all dominant malocclusions from sharp points, front or rear hooks and ramps, tall teeth, and wave mouth safely and in a fraction of the time it would take with hand tools.  For more information see the Equine Dentistry page!
